Rizzo
Suzanne Roberts Theatre
480 South Broad Street Philadelphia
From beat cop to mayor of Philadelphia, Frank Rizzo's incredible story comes to life in Rizzo, a new play from Theatre Exile and Philadelphia Theatre Company. Brash and controversial, Rizzo rose up through the ranks to become police commissioner during the height of racial tension in the city. He only became more divisive during his two terms as mayor. To some he was a hero, to others a villain. This raw and timely drama picks up Rizzo's story in 1991, when he set out to run for a third term and, hopefully, repair his legacy. Acclaimed playwright Bruce Graham (The Outgoing Tide) captures this larger-than-life figure in Rizzo, at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre.
